Township Trustees Looking For Candidates To Replace Wes Sargent
In early January, township trustees, Fred Abraham and Bill Habig must appoint someone to serve the last year of Wes Sargent's term. Residents of Granville Township, including the Village, who are interested in the position, should send a letter to Norman Kennedy, township fiscal officer stating their qualifications and reasons for desiring the position. The application deadline is December 3.
Interviews of applicants will be conducted during a public meeting on December 17, 2008.
When asked about the selection process, Kennedy told The Granville Press, "December 17th will be a regular meeting in lieu of December 24th. Interviews will be held in a public session prior to the 7:00 pm start of the regular portion of the meeting."
"I anticipate the Trustees could make a decision at the regular meeting portion of the meeting later that night. There is also the possibility that the number of 'applicants' will necessitate more than one day of interviews. In that case the decision making date well could be different," Kennedy said.
The deadline for receipt of application letters is December 3, 2008. Letters should be sent to:

The vacancy was caused when Sargent handed a letter of resignation to his fellow trustees at the end of their regular meeting on October 8, 2008. His resignation is effective December 31, 2008.
The resignation leaves one year of his term to be filled by an appointment.
He has been a trustee since 2002 and before that he served on the township Zoning Commission for 19 years.
In his resignation letter, Sargent wrote, "It has always been my intent to serve a full term, but the current political environment created by a few local residents has made the time commitment unreasonable which saps my energy and enthusiasm."
With an appointment to replace Sargent, the trustees will be left with only one elected member, Fred Abraham. Bill Habig was appointed to replace Jim Havens after he resigned.

On the other hand....
There's an election in a year.Even if the present Trustee,Habig, appoints his twin brother there's very little damage he'll be able to do in the next 11 months with the scrutiny he's under.
Wonderful!
How great that the process to replace Wes seems to be an open book.
Will we be able to question the applicants at the 12/17 meeting? Are citizens invited to participate in the post interview discussion and at least present for the voting?
So, it remains to be seen as to who is interested.
Tim Hughes?
Chris Hawkins?
Bill Mason?
Anyone else come to mind? Let's stir things up.
